Following on from my post about The Content Authority, it is time to look at another content mill. This one is a European mill, and goes by the name Great Content. For those in the UK, it’s great. Everything is paid in pounds sterling, so there is no need to worry about exchange rates.

It also means that the money seems a little higher. Instead of being a cent a word, it is a penny a word. But that benefit only works well when the exchange rate is well in the pounds favour.

The Pay Rates at Great Content

Like The Content Authority, there are different tier structures. However, not everyone starts on the same one. You can start from as low as 2 (I don’t know what happened to 1) or as high as 6+. I’ve never seen people order anything above a 5. Most order in the 4 or 4+ sections.

Rates differ depending on tiers. The 4 rated writers will earn a penny a word. There isn’t a breakdown on the site to see how much writers earn for each of the tiers; not that I’ve found anyway.

Revision Requests and Moving Up the Tiers

The customer support and editors on the site aren’t that bad. I’ve never run into a problem, anyway. Clients can reject articles, but in my experience it happens very little. The only time I’ve found a problem is when it’s my own fault. I’ve either miss-read the instructions or left something out completely. It happens few and far between though, and is usually a sign I need to take some time off from the computer.

Moving up the tiers happens in one of two ways. You either get looked at when the editors decide to or you can request it. I started on a 4 rating and asked to be checked and was moved up. Clients get to rate you as a writer and I was consistently scoring higher than expected, so believed I should move up. The editors agreed.

Can You Make a Living Writing at Great Content?

It’s worth remembering that this is a content mill. I don’t think it’s possible to make money a living writing at any content mill.

This is another one of those sites to have in your back pocket when you need a small amount of money quickly. There is a £25 payout threshold to meet, so you need to plan ahead for that too.

I use it when I need to make up target for the day because my private clients have been slightly off. Usually, it’s just a couple of quid at the end of the day and there is usually something available on the board. Unfortunately, I’ve not seen much work on the board for a while. That happens with mills, which is why it’s worth putting eggs in different baskets.

Could Great Content be an option for you? It could be worth giving it a look if you want something small to stash away for now.

  1. Nicely done, Alexandria. Not sure I ever want to work for someone else again but if I need a bit of quick cash, it’s nice to know I could follow your ideas here!

    1. I understand that thought. I’m working on getting to a point where all my income just comes from private clients and residual income.

  2. I don’t really like the idea of working for content farms. I did it before and it wasn’t pleasant and the rates are always quite low. Still, I might check this one out in the future. Oh, and have you heard about Text Master? It’s another content farm that pays decent rates.

    1. Never heard of Text Master. I’ve heard of Text Broker. That’s not the one you mean is it? As for liking them. I don’t think there’s much to like except when they pay on time 😉 But they’re just a way to make a small amount quickly.

    1. I remember Suite101. I wrote for them years ago but jumped ship when they originally said they were changing the pay system. My articles have earned more on other sites than they ever did or would there. I didn’t think they were paying writers anymore or have things changed again?

    1. That’s something people have told me in the past. Don’t listen to the nay-sayers and follow your dreams 🙂
