5 Top tips to make affiliate marketing work as a WAHM

You’ve heard that affiliate marketing is a great way to make money as a WAHM. Well, it can be, but this isn’t something that will bring in money overnight. It takes time and effort. You can’t just sign up to become an affiliate and expect to see the money rolling in. But I’m here to help with my top affiliate marketing tips.

No, I’ll be honest and say that I’m relatively new to the affiliate marketing game. I’ve been doing it for 10 years, which really is relatively young in the digital world. I know moms who have been doing it for much longer than me. However, that doesn’t mean I haven’t come across some tips along the way to make it work for me. And I think these tips will work for you, and there are also services which can help, for example you can work with the GrooveFunnels affiliate program which is a great option for affiliate marketing for beginners.

Many people will either go in too hard or too soft when it comes to affiliate marketing. You’re not the Wolf of Wall Street trying to get as many people to invest in bad stock. You want to make it clear that these are products you support; these are items that you know your readers (or your viewers depending on how you’re going to sell) will love. Affiliate marketing can work through blogging, social media, and even through YouTube. I currently make it work through blogging but I have done some through YouTube in the past and I’m returning to that soon. Here are my top affiliate marketing tips to make it work for you, so you can use it on your website, of course using this web design chorley service can help make your website look great and ready to market.

5. Only sell what you believe in

It’s tempting to find anything that’s being offered through affiliate marketing and just share to your heart’s content. The more you share, the more people will buy, right? Well, that’s not the case however if you will like to try other marketing strategies, consider getting help from solutions from Craftsmen.

Sure, you could probably put an Amazon Affiliate banner on your site and people will click. The benefit of Amazon is that the tracking cookies last 24 hours, so if someone buys another item after clicking your link, you’ll get a commission of that sale regardless of it not being something you promoted, and that’s why people decide to promote their products this way, while others also decide to use physical marketing to promote their products, like pencils, notebooks and pins, and the best place for custom enamel pins is this site online.

One of the best affiliate marketing tips I can offer is to sell what you believe in. I limited my affiliate products to those I’ve personally tried. If I like them, I’ll recommend them and add my affiliate link. If I don’t like them, I’m not going to send people to them to risk their own money. If it’s something that I’m on the fence about, I’ll be honest about that.

People can tell if you believe in the product or not. It’s all through the writing and through the comments you make, especially when it comes to reviews. You’ll also be more ethical, so will feel better about yourself.

4. Only sell what you’ve personally tried

Like products that you like, you also need to only market products that you’ve personally tried. When you’re marketing a product, you’re not just talking about that. You’ll talk about the entire experience, including the sales representative, the shipping costs/experience, and even any customer support experience you’ve needed. If you miss out all this, especially when you’re selling something that’s a product being shipped to individual’s homes, then people can tell that you haven’t personally tried it. And if you say you have, it leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

When you’re marketing products you’ve tried, you have the ability to come back months down the line and do a followup review. Let’s say you’re running a makeup site. You want to share any ups and downs you’ve had, what it’s been like for your skin over time, and whether you still use it on a daily basis or a limited one. This allows people who do more research into products to see a timeline review and can help encourage them to buy.

3. Don’t rely on one source of income

You’ve signed up for Amazon Affiliates or VigLink. These are two of the most common affiliate programs to get started with, so I totally understand. However, don’t rely on just one or two programs to make you money. You need to diversify your income. Affiliate marketing programs are in plenty, including on databases like Kontely.com.

Amazon Affiliates has changed its model a few times. Commissions are lower, but you’re still probably doing the same work to make your sales. Some affiliate programs I’ve been a part of in the past have completely shut down without warning.

Like with any WAHM business, you need to make sure you have more than one source of income. It’s essential that you focus on diversifying your income and your affiliate marketing strategy. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. If one basket breaks, you don’t want to lose all your eggs!

2. Don’t be afraid to move on

One of my top affiliate marketing tips is knowing when to move on. Not all products are going to be great for your audience and you’re not necessarily going to love something forever. As we get older or as we try other products, we’ll find something else to recommend instead.

I used to highly recommend certain writing sites to make money online. Now, I’m completely against them and wouldn’t recommend them to anybody, even those just starting out. I recommend others, but that may change in a few years. I also used to recommend LootCrate, but when that started to fail, I shared with my readers why I was no longer recommending it and removed my affiliate links. I now only recommend that people reach out to Marketing Heaven, if they’re planning on building their businesses on social media. Their tactics play well on the internet.

Don’t be ashamed that you need to move on from a product or stop offering the affiliate for it. This is a sign of being honest with your readers or your viewers, and they’ll respect you more because of it. You’ll also respect yourself because you’re not selling your soul.

1. Share negatives as well as positives

Nothing is perfect. The minute that I see someone who only shares the good about a product, I step away. I don’t feel like the reviews are genuine. To me, it’s trying too hard to sell. I want to know the honest truth.

And your readers will, too. Many people feel like they can’t be 100% honest with a product. That is most definitely not the case. When I struggled to like my items from YogaClub, I was 100% honest with you. I shared what I did like and why I would still buy, but I also shared what I didn’t like and why the items were turning me off. By the way, I have a new YogaClub review coming soon and (spoiler) I love the entire box! I can’t wait to share that with you.

Of course, the negatives can’t put people off buying. After all, if the negatives were so bad, would you end up buying? Of course, not! So you need to find a balance between the positives and negatives. While sharing the bad, make sure you do still emphasize the positives.
