When you start your Rover business, it can be difficult to get new clients. Here is the top tip that I’ve found to work.

Starting out on Rover can be tricky. How will people find you, and how will they know to trust you? I was fortunate to fall into a couple of clients, but there is one promotion trick that I’ve found works best.

You need to be willing to put yourself out there. Don’t worry about other people also promoting themselves. There is room for a lot of pet sitters*, as people need sitters, walkers, and more on a regular basis.

I will say that social media is a great method of promotion, but you want to do it right. You can’t just pop a post up and hope that people see it. You need to be strategic in the way that you promote yourself.

Promote your Rover business in local Facebook groups

I have found that Facebook is the best for promoting my Rover business. This isn’t just about sharing my Rover profile now and then. I jump into local Facebook groups.

Whenever there is a post about someone looking for a dog walker or a dog sitter, I will put in a comment with a link to my Rover platform. While these Facebook groups usually have a “no promotion” rule, it means not putting your own post up. When people are specifically looking for someone, then you can usually pop in your own post. They’ve asked!

The message I put will depend on the type of need a pet parent has. If it’s for overnights, I’ll share that I have availability on set dates and include my Rover card. If it’s for daily walks (which I have more time available for), I’ll make it clear that I’m adding new clients and include my link to my Rover profile. I’ll also make it clear that they are free to PM me if they do have questions.

Always make sure you include your Rover link

The one thing I want is for people to feel like they know who I am. I don’t share a lot on my personal Facebook page that is public, so I want them to see my Rover details. I want them to see the dogs that I have, and I want them to read the bio.

Not everyone will. But some definitely go there to see what I have to offer.

This is also a great way to make them aware of my pricing. The last thing I need is for someone to get hopeful and then realize that I’m too expensive for them. I want them to see any holiday rates I have, check in on the price if they have more than one pet, and look at any other offers I have, such as picking up and dropping off for overnights.

A link also allows them to easily book something if they decide that they want to go for me.

Does it work every time? Not at all. That’s the nature of business*. There are other dog walkers and dog sitters out there. However, it works more than just throwing up my link anywhere and everywhere since I’m already focusing on warm leads.
