Freelance Writer Weight Loss Tips: Lose Weight While Stuck Behind a Desk

The freelance writing life is a sedentary one. We spend hours sitting and it’s just not good for us. After all, sitting is the new smoking.

But it’s not always easy to get up and about. We can’t always get the exercise in, especially if we’re just starting out in the writing world. How are we supposed to manage it all?

I know that it may seem like taking time away from your business will be bad. But it’s actually really good for your productivity! Yes, you can actually be a more productive writer by taking breaks here and there.

Using the Pomodoro Technique

I first heard about the Pomodoro Technique a few years ago. Someone mentioned it on a writing forum and I decided to find out a little more about it. After all, I’m a writer so I can research! But I don’t want you to waste time researching.

The Pomodoro technique is basically the use of a timer. You set it for 25 minutes and work in that space of time. Then for five minutes you take a break. Take it away from the computer and stretch your legs. Keep following this routine throughout the day.

If you follow this technique properly, you will need to stop in the middle of whatever you are doing to take your break. I highly recommend this book if you want to learn more about the Podomoro Technique and start using it in your writing business.

I don’t quite use it as recommended. I don’t like stopping a project part way through. I lose my train of thought and I really struggle to get back into things. So, I have slightly adapted the technique to work for me.

I’ll work on one project for an hour or so. I never do more than an hour’s work—and will set a clear point in the work if it is going to take more than an hour to complete in full. I’ll then take a 10 minute break away from the computer.

The Pomodoro Technique Can Help Freelance Writers Lose Weight

So, how does this help with weight loss? After all, if we’re stationary, we’re more likely to gain weight, right?

Well, the Podomoro Technique makes you get up from your desk at set intervals. You’re more likely to get some movement in and that’s essential for freelance writers who want to lose weight. It’s essential for anyone who wants to lose weight and it can give better results if you use supplements like Resurge.

You can even set some exercises for these breaks. 5-10 minutes is great for getting some pressups and situps in if you want to do something. You can also jump on the spot for the whole time. After 6 hours, you’ll have done 60 minutes! That’s the perfect amount to lose weight.

Here’s How I Use Breaks to Improve My Weight Loss

I want to lose weight just like many other freelance writers. It’s crept on over the last year and it’s time that I do something about it.

I share in this YouTube video what I’m doing—utilizing this tip so you can lose weight too!

  1. Weight has crept on me over the year. I haven’t been as mobile as I was before. I do take the time to get up and do other things in between my computer time. I can’t stand sitting for long periods.
