You’re a new mom and looking for a way to make money from home. Is now a good time to start a new home business? It could be.
Being a new mom brings a lot of mixed emotions. You’re happy, you’re sad, you’re stressed, you’re tired, you’re everything. It’s okay to feel all of that!
One of the reasons for stress can be financial. You worry about having to go back to work when your maternity leave is over. That means daycare, and we all know how expensive daycare is! You may as well not bother working in many cases!
Starting a new home business could be the best thing to do. You won’t start making a full-time income overnight, but it can be a great way to get the best of both worlds. I’ve done it, and I don’t regret it.
You have flexibility and control
Flexibility is important as a mom, whether as a new mom or one with school-age kids. There are all sorts of needs throughout a child’s life. You need to pick them up when they’re sick, and they’re going to want to be around you for cuddles. Life becomes unpredictable.
When you start a new home business*, you have more flexibility. You get to set your own hours, and you choose when tasks will be done. As a new mom, this can be powerful, as you can work when your baby is napping or when you feel like you have more energy, whether it’s late at night or early in the morning.
That routine can change as the child gets older. There’s no need to feel guilty when your routine changes for your work.

You can save money with a new home business
Sure, there are going to be costs to think about when it comes to setting up a new business. Even if you’re working from home, there are going to be costs, whether it’s getting a new website up and running or buying stock. However, you will end up saving money.
With it being a home business, you don’t have the costs of leasing a business space. Nor do you have to worry about a babysitter or daycare. At least, not at first. You may want to think about this as your kids get older or as your business grows, but for now, you can do it around your child.
The money you make is yours!

You get more time with your baby
We all want to spend as much time with our children as we can. That’s not easy when we have to go back to work. By having a new home business, you can get the best of both worlds. You’re working, btu you’re also spending time with your child.
This is great as your child gets older as well. Both of my daughters have seen that it’s possible to have it all. They see me working, but they also see me take time off for them. I’m there when they need something, but they also learn sometimes patience is necessary if I have an interview or a meeting.
As a new mom, you want to spend time with your child, but you want to contribute to the household financially. Now you can do both.
You have other connections with a new home business
Being a new mom can be isolating. That’s especially the case if you’re the first of your friends to have a baby. They don’t know what it’s like, and you can end up stuck in the house alone with your baby. You don’t have much in the way of adult conversation.
Starting a new business can help with this. You are able to connect with other people whether it’s via email, Zoom calls, or business meetings elsewhere. Sometimes, just the smallest amount of interaction can help you stop feeling so alone.
This is going to depend on the type of business* you run. As a writer, I still don’t connect with a lot of people on a daily basis!
You do something you’re passionate about
When you start a new home business, you will spend time looking at your options available. Do you sell candles? Will you start writing? What about a photography business? One of the great things about starting a business idea is that you get to do something that you’re passionate about. This makes work far more enjoyable.
You end up wanting to work harder to see yourself succeed. This is great for others who are watching you, as they gain inspiration from you.
Just do keep in mind that sometimes your passion can become work. You still need to find a way to have a hobby as well as a business.
