WAHM Tips: When You Have a New Passion

WAHM tips: What do you do if you have a new passion?

You’ve been working on your current business venture for a while. As much as you like it, there’s a new passion forming. It could be from a hobby or because a friend has gotten involved. There’s often this sense of FOMO. Here are my WAHM tips to help figure out what you should do with this new passion.

No. 1 WAHM Tips: Are you suffering from FOMO?

The first thing to do is figure out if it’s FOMO or not. This means “fear of missing out.” It’s the idea that you’re scared the grass is greener on the other side. And I totally get that fear. You’re on this business venture where you want to support your family while working from home. You don’t want to overlook something that could be perfect.

Watch out for FOMO. You need to take a step back and look at this new passion. Are you really interested in it or is it because a friend is interested in it?

If this new passion is a hobby or something you’ve realized you’re good at, you’ll want to look at ways to make it work in your business. Here are my top WAHM tips to use your new passion.

Does it fit in your current business?

The first thing to look at is whether your new passion connects with your current business venture at all. Once you’ve counted out FOMO, this is the top of all my WAHM tips. If it can fit into your current business venture, you can jump straight into adding it in.

Now you just need to decide how you’re going to add it in. Will it be a category on your site? Will you just start promoting it on your Facebook page?

Let’s say you currently have a photography business. You do wedding photography because you enjoy capturing those special moments on someone’s big day. Now you’ve heard about the fun photobooths. This is a great add-on to your photography business. You can promote it as a package with your current deals or even offer it as a separate offering.

But what if you want to get involved in selling candles or essential oils? This type of business won’t really work as well with a photography business, which is where you need to move onto the next tip.

Can it work as a side hustle?

You’ll hear when you first start looking at a WAHM business that it should be a side hustle. You want to grow it while you’re working full-time. It takes sacrifice in your sleep but it works out because you have a full-time income while you’re building the initial business.

The same applies to a new passion. While I started my writing career when I was unemployed, it wasn’t the best idea. I would have loved to have had it as a side hustle so I didn’t have to worry in the early stages. If I get a new passion that doesn’t link to writing, I’d love for a way to build it up through a side hustle.

What do you do when that side hustle grows to a full-time thing? You get to either choose between them or start outsourcing your work to keep both going. This is going to depend on what you want to gain from your business.

Are you ready to give up your current venture?

But what if you don’t want to keep going with the current venture you have going? It may be good but it may not be a passion—it may never have been. Or maybe it’s just not growing the way you want and you want to try something else.

Well, remember the biggest of my WAHM tips. Don’t just jump into a new passion for FOMO. Just because the current venture isn’t working doesn’t mean a new one will. Be honest with yourself about the current venture. Do you want to give it up because it’s never been a passion or because you’re not willing to put in the hard work? If it’s the latter, are you willing to put in the hard work for the new passion?

If your business is growing but you have a new passion, you’ll want to consider whether you’re willing to give up the original venture. If you don’t want to give it up, do you have time for the new passion? Which one is more important to you?

When You Have a New Passion for Your WAHM Business

When I have new niche ideas

I’ll share some things I’ve done when it comes to new passions. As a writer, I find a new love for different niches. When I first started out, I was a generalized writer. I’ve slowly gained different interests and found niches that I’m passionate about.

Not all of them will fit on one blog. I’ve had to adapt and change as passions have grown. For example, this was a place for new writers and that was it. I decided that it wasn’t really meant to be a home just for writers but a place for WAHM. I set up a separate domain for writers to create two distinct places. I have another domain name for the Entertainment niche that I adore and another for weight loss, which is something I’ve been passionate about for a long time.

It’s hard work running multiple blogs. I have a lot of help, mostly from my very supportive husband. As my daughters get older, I’ll help them understand some of the workings and let them help if they want. But the best thing for me is to figure out which niches I’ve been most connected to and then decide whether to build blogs for them, add them to existing blogs, or ignore them.
