With The Hunting Party Season 1 arriving on Netflix, there’s no doubt that it should become your next binge-watch. This is perfect for fans of crime dramas, especially those who love the grittier options like Criminal Minds.
Only the first season will drop on Netflix, but there are four episodes of Season 2 also on Peacock to work your way through. Once you start, you’ll be hooked, especially with the show returning to NBC on Thursday, Feb. 26.
The Hunting Party Has a Mystery with Answers
Don’t you just hate it when a TV show has a mystery and slowly drags out the answers? That is certainly an issue for many shows, but not The Hunting Party. From the start, there is a mystery surrounding The Pit and the explosion that happened.
With each episode, there are new answers. And they’re real answers. While there are times we get the odd red-herring, this is a show that is designed to keep us tuning in, and that means offering answers on a consistent basis that bring up some new questions.
The questions and answers haven’t stopped with the first season, either. There are a couple of storylines that build further during The Hunting Party Season 2, adding more to the mystery without feeling frustrating.
The Serial Killers Are Wild
If you love Criminal Minds, then you’ll love to hear that there is a profiler aspect to the show. Bex Henderson, played by Melissa Roxburgh, is an FBI profiler, and an excellent one at that. However, her profiles are sometimes off due to the way the serial killers have changed.
The Pit is a home for “treatments,” with many of the serial killers going through torturous experiments in a way to “fix” them. It just changes why they kill or what they want to achieve when they get out of The Pit, and that leads to some wild and crazy killers.
Yes, there are some who are still very much the same, but it’s always fun to watch Bex have to figure out the new profile. A lot of that comes from watching the videos of the experiments and “treatments” on the serial killers, leading to some uncomfortable viewing.
By the way, you’re certainly going to start questioning your own morals when it comes to the way the serial killers have been treated.
It Brings the Found Family Aspect
If there’s one thing that I love about TV shows now, it’s that there is a lot of focus on found families. Blood isn’t always thicker than water, and that’s something The Hunting Party proves. Even Bex’s daughter isn’t her biological daughter, showing just how much the “found family” aspect goes right to the start of it.
The team is put together at the start of The Hunting Party Season 1, and nobody knows anybody. They’ve all heard things, but there are a lot of nuances to their characters that everyone learns as the series progresses. And while they are all focused on keeping innocent people safe, the team grows as a family, learning a little more about each other and what makes each other tick.
There’s a real bond between them. Is it perfect? Not at all, but this is a great chance to see what can happen if you start to let your guard down and let people in.
You’ll find yourself wanting to watch more, especially as characters end up in trouble. How will they get out of various situations?
Then there are the secrets that they’re all keeping from each other. You just know they’re going to come out, but can the family survive that?
The Hunting Party Season 1 is coming to Netflix on Sunday, Feb. 15, and it needs to be your next binge-watch.
