The Count of Monte Cristo Trailer Teases a Story of Betrayal, Vengeance, and Deceit

The Count of Monte Cristo

You’ve heard of the story of The Count of Monte Cristo. It’s told in the novel of Alexandre Dumas’s iconic French novel, and now PBS will bring the TV series of the same name.

Sam Claflin takes on the legendary role of Edmond Dantes, who has his life taken from him when he’s accused of a crime he didn’t commit. Once he gets free, he is determined to get the woman he once loved back, while also entering a world of vengeance and deceit.

The Count of Monte Cristo Trailer Teases the Story of Revenge

The story itself is one of the greatest revenge stories ever to be told. It’s set the bar high for centuries, and there’s no doubt that we’re ready for it to come to life on the small screen.

The trailer for The Count of Monte Cristo is out, telling us the basics of what we already know. Dante was 19 when he was imprisoned for espionage, working with Napoleon. That wasn’t true, but it didn’t matter. He ended up in prison for 15 years, and every year, he pictured the revenge that he would get.

Now he’s out, and he is able to take on a new identity. After discovering the treasure of Monte Cristo, he becomes one of the richest men in the world, and it gives him the power to get the vengeance he so seeks.

What about the woman he loved, Mercedes? Well, that may not be possible now he’s focused on revenge, but his heart has never forgotten her.

When Will The Count of Monte Cristo Premiere on PBS?

If you have PBS Passport, you can start watching the series now. The first episode has been made available, with new episodes arriving weekly. That is until the official premiere, when you’ll lose access to the episodes.

The official premiere on PBS Masterpiece is Sunday, March 22 at 10/9c. It follows new episodes of Call the Midwife and The Forsytes, making for a thrilling night of period dramas.

There are eight episodes to this limited series. And yes, it’s a limited series and most likely going to remain that way. After all, this is just one book to work from — and we don’t need it extended!

The Count of Monte Cristo will be a must-watch as it premieres on Sunday, March 22, and I’ll be reviewing it right here.
