FOX Delivers Exciting News as Doc Lands a Third Season

Doc Season 3

Just as I expected, FOX has handed out another renewal. This time it’s to the sophomore medical drama, Doc. It’s not just the renewal that comes as the positive for the series.

Doc follows Molly Parker’s Dr. Amy Larson, who starts off more as an antagonist. When she’s involved in a car accident and loses her memories from the last eight years, she has to start her life anew. Not only does she have to learn everything about her career again, but there are heartbreaking losses that she has to face when it comes to her son and husband.

The first season focused on a mystery surrounding whether Amy would get enough of her memories back to make sure another doctor didn’t get away with killing a patients. The second season has focused on her finding her footing in the hospital, while finding her job at risk with a new boss.

Doc Season 3 Was Granted a Month Ago

According to Deadline, FOX renewed the medical drama a month ago. However, due to some negotiations with the showrunner, the announcement couldn’t be made. It led to drama Best Medicine and comedy Animal Control getting the earlier renewals.

That being said, it’s clear that FOX is happy with the performance of the medical drama. It has slipped a little in the ratings, but nothing to be too concerned about.

In fact, FOX shares that the show has averaged 7.4m viewers across multiple platforms this season to date. The delayed viewings almost triple the Live+Same Day viewing figures, making it clear that people are watching, even if it’s not live.

There’s Even Better News for Doc Season 3

It’s not just about the renewal, though. On top of that, FOX has given the series another 22-episode season. This matches the second, showing just how happy the network is with the performance. Barbie Kligman and Hank Steinberg will both continue as co-showrunners.

With a 22-episode season, it hints that Doc Season 3 will be part of the fall 2026 schedule. This will be further confirmed in May during the Upfronts, but it’s the only way to fit in all 22 episodes with ease.

The first season debuted in January, but the second season was moved to the fall after it became a resounding success. With the continued success, it makes sense to keep it in the fall and run throughout the regular TV season.

Doc Season 2 currently airs on Tuesdays at 9/8c, straight after episodes of Best Medicine, on FOX.
