Ghosts Season 5 Episode 11 Continues With Flower’s Growth

Ghosts

When we learned that Flower may have been the one sucked off at the end of Ghosts Season 3, it was disappointing but not all that surprising. After all, Flower has been the ghost with the most growth, and that continues on Ghosts Season 5 Episode 11.

After taking a long winter break, we were ready to meet “The Others,” and it didn’t take long to find out that they were Flower’s former cult members.

It turned out that they had died in an old Cold War bunker on the property, which Jay and Sam have now found, due to a carbon monoxide leak. They blame Flower for having to go on the run, leading to their deaths, because she blabbed to the authorities when she left the cult.

Flower Plays the Cult at Their Own Game on Ghosts Season 5 Episode 11

After seeing that the cult was back, including Bruce, Flower is shocked and clearly uncomfortable. However, she wants to help the cult realize just what is going on. The problem is they’re all so ingrained, and she decides to infiltrate to help reveal the truth.

Of course, the cult has its own plan. They want to push Flower into the dirt as punishment for their deaths.

At first, when it comes to Flower rejoining the cult, it looks like she has fallen for Bruce’s words again, and Sheila Carrasco plays this so well. You can see her mulling the idea of the cult and Bruce’s words over, and then she just gives in. Because that’s what the old Flower would do.

Yet, she has another plan going on, and we get to see just how far this character has come. Is she becoming more and more lucid as time goes on? Is that even possible for a ghost to do?

Throughout the episode, Flower is able to remain focused on the task at hand, looking for any sort of way that would allow her to expose the truth. She still has her ditzy moments, which makes sense, but she is able to push forward doing the right thing.

This isn’t just about exposing the cult, though. She wants to help the other ghosts who are part of it, as now she has found out what a real family is and how they treat each other.

None of this would have been possible without Sam and Jay helping them learn what it means to be a better person, but at the same time, the spirits have to make the choice to change if that’s what they really want.

Clearly, Flower does.

She’s not acting out of selfish reasons to break up the cult, and she didn’t even encourage the others to push Bruce — or Jason, as it turns out his real name is — into the dirt.

On top of that, she didn’t even do anything dastardly to expose him. It all came down to the meteorite in his hand, which Pete points out is a rock for a hide-a-key. They all continue to work together to help achieve each other’s goals.

It opens the door for Flower to be one of the Main 8 to really get sucked off first, and I think this works. As I said, we weren’t all that surprised that it was Flower possibly going after Ghosts Season 3, because she is the one who isn’t selfish out of malicious reasons, and she is slowly growing a backbone, learning about family, and figuring out how to be a good person for the right reasons.

Trevor Also Gets Some Extra Growth Pushing Him To Ascending

Flower isn’t the only spirit who gets some time to shine on Ghosts Season 5 Episode 11. Trevor meets one of the cult members, Barbara, who turns out to be from Philadelphia.

Of course, he wants to be with her. The accent and the knowledge of home pull him in, but he can’t break up with Patience for her. Patience and Barbara are best friends, and Trevor isn’t going to be that guy.

Look, Trevor has always had a lot of talk, but he has always been a semi-decent guy deep down. There’s still a lot of room for growth, but he has understood the girl code, and he’s not your typical finance bro from the ‘90s.

Yet, his push to get Patience to break up with him was shady, and it didn’t even work. He should have figured that one out as well. Sure, Patience is drawn to him for his work ethic, but she is also a woman of the 1600s. She’s a Puritan, and that means she is loyal to the man she loves.

So, when Trevor lies about being fired from his job and considers doing nothing for a while, Patience is just there. She wants to be with him, and it gives Trevor a chance to reconsider everything that he knows and feels.

Trevor has clearly never had a woman stand by him through darker times, and this is when love can either flounder or flourish. With someone like Patience, it has a chance to shine, and Trevor is seeing that in real time. His experience was real love and a real relationship can really mean, and suddenly, he’s interested in it.

It’s real growth for Trevor, a character who continues to grow and surprise each and every episode. Yet, he’s not quite ready to move on anymore now that he knows he has a daughter out there.

Is it possible that we’ll see him unintentionally grow, which is arguably the way it should be, so that he ends up being sucked off and regretting a few of those choices?

Ghosts had lost its way in the spirits’ main focus for a couple of seasons, but the fifth season has pulled it back to that journey of being sucked off. However, they’re all slowly forgetting about that, and this shows that maybe, they are ready for it. The downside for us is that it means we lose a character or two when it happens.

Ghosts airs on Thursdays at 8:30/7:30c on CBS. I’ll be here covering it on a regular basis, as it’s my favorite comedy series on TV right now!
