Could the Miss Scarlet Season 6 Finale Be a Series Finale?

Miss Scarlet

One of the worrying things as a TV show ends a season is that it may not come back. That is certainly the case after the Miss Scarlet Season 6 finale, which seems to have ended with closure and hope. In a way, it felt like a series finale.

Miss Scarlet Season 7 hasn’t officially been confirmed yet, and this is a little unsettling. We usually get word about a renewal not long after the season finale has aired, as filming often starts up right away to ensure there’s only a year between the seasons. The delay could hint that Miss Scarlet is coming to an end.

The Miss Scarlet Season 6 Finale Works as a Series Finale

Something that does stand out is the way the finale worked well as a series finale. We got a major case that brought back some fan-favorite characters. The Governess, introduced during the Miss Scarlet Season 5 finale, was intriguing enough to want to see again, and we got Moses Valentine back, as someone Eliza can trust with her life.

Then there was the threat to Eliza’s business, but also the questions of her and Inspector Blake’s relationship. After a season of back-and-forth, they were able to declare their love for each other, and their secret is out of the bag. However, the business isn’t threatened thanks to a promotion that Blake got at the very end.

Even Sophia learned the truth — not that she didn’t already know. Having Sophia make it clear that she already knew everything and not fight against it made it clear that Blake and Eliza were doing the right thing by being together.

Then there’s the way Eliza’s story ended on the Miss Scarlet Season 6 finale. Her fee was much bigger than initially planned, with the Governess making it clear that Eliza should use it for something big. That she is, with multiple women walking through the doors, presumably with Eliza expanding her agency with the hope of more work on the way.

It Would Be Nice to Have Miss Scarlet Season 7

Despite the ending feeling like a series finale, there are still plenty of ways for the series to grow. While there isn’t the drama in the relationship anymore, it would be wonderful to see Eliza and Blake get to grow together. There are always various questions to bring up, such as when they will move in with each other and could get married.

It’s not just about the two of them together, but also about the various supporting characters we’ve come to know and love. Detective Willows got to keep his job, but there has to be another Detective Inspector coming in. How will that shake up Scotland Yard, and will it make it harder for Eliza to get work? What will it mean for Detective Willows as he continues to prove his skills after the unfortunate incident with Isabel Summers?

Ivy and Barnabus Potts have their storylines here and there. We learned somewhat of what Mr. Wormsley was up to, and he didn’t exactly want Barnabus back, but he was forced into that happening. Meanwhile, Ivy got the promotion at work, getting the chance to run the Clerical Office and prove that it was always a woman’s job.

There’s certainly room for growth and development with Miss Scarlet Season 7, so we just need to wait for a decision to be made.

Miss Scarlet is available to stream on PBS Masterpiece.
