We had just got back into the swing of new episodes of the One Chicago franchise. After a long and empty February due to the Winter Olympics, the franchise returned at the beginning of March with an epic three-hour crossover.
We had hoped that because of the long break in February that we would get a good string of new episodes. However, NBC has other plans, and the shows are on a break tonight, Wednesday, March 25.
Why Is the One Chicago Franchise on a Break?
It’s not exactly clear why the show is on a break again already. This is just a one-week break, and hopefully, there won’t need to be any more before the May finales. It looks like it’s purely due to the scheduling needs to make sure there are enough episodes to run until the intended May finale dates.
There is also a chance that there aren’t enough episodes ready due to the nature of filming. If they are still going through post-production, it’s possible that they just need an extra week to be finished. It’s also possible that a future episode needs a little more time in post-production and the break now makes more sense in terms of the storytelling.
The fact that there are reruns of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD make it clear that this was a planned break, though. It definitely suggests scheduling needs for the network.
When Will One Chicago Return with New Episodes?
The good news is that there isn’t a long wait for the return of the three shows. All three will return on Wednesday, April 1, which was made clear in each of their promos.
Chicago Med Season 11 Episode 16 will put the focus on Dr. Charles, as he struggles with his own mental health. It all comes to a blow after dealing with a harrowing experience working on the suicide prevention hotline, but he doesn’t think that it’s worth opening up to his colleagues, despite knowing that mental health problems are very real and very important to deal with.
Meanwhile, Severide is back after taking the Captain’s Exam. However, not everyone wants to see him move up the ranks, and Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 16 will see some push back from a new Battalion Chief. There are concerns that Severide won’t follow the rules, and he has shown that he has a habit of not doing that now and then, but Pascal wouldn’t have encouraged him to go for it if he didn’t think him worth, right?
Then on Chicago PD Season 13 Episode 16, we get another Torres-centric hour. When a teenager is shot and killed in broad daylight, Torres realizes that he needs to do something to stop the senseless violence. Can one man change the whole city? That’s the problem, as so many have tried and failed, but Torres will at least fight for justice.
One Chicago returns on Wednesday, April 1 starting at 8/7c on NBC.
