House of the Dragon Season 3 Finally Gets a Confirmed Premiere Month

House of the Dragon

We’ve known House of the Dragon Season 3 would arrive in the summer of 2026 for the longest time. The big questions have been whether it would be held until August, or whether Matt Smith’s statements were right about June.

We had hoped that June 2026 would be the release date. It would mark two years from the second season, and it would give us something exciting to watch during the summer months, when broadcast goes on a large break. Well, there’s a lot of exciting news!

House of the Dragon Season 3 Will Premiere in June 2026

The first promotional poster for House of the Dragon Season 3 is out, and it tells us that the show will premiere in June. That’s all we get right now. There’s no exact premiere date, but that makes sense. We’re still months out from the premiere, and there will be a few other schedules needed to be worked out before then.

We’re probably looking toward the middle or end of June, though. That would be summer, and it would mark around two years from the second season premiering. If it is the start of the month, that would be great, but I’m looking more at around Sunday, June 21, if I really had to put a prediction on the date.

We will get a promotional trailer later today. This is likely to be more of a teaser than a full trailer, but we’re here for it. The trailer will likely come closer to the time, and it’ll probably be when we get the official premiere date.

What we do know is that, like all HBO shows, this is going to be released weekly. It airs on both HBO and HBO Max, so it’s still the premium cable release format. I know so many people out there love a binge-watch, but that’s what is killing TV shows.

What to expect on House of the Dragon Season 3

So, what can we expect to see during the third season? One of the biggest battles that we’re expecting is the Battle of the Gullet. This is the bloodiest of the sea battles during the Dance of the Dragons, and it’s when the Green’s Triarchy decides to move against Lord Corlys Velaryon, the Sea Snake.

There is a huge loss for the Blacks, as Prince Jacaerys Velaryon decides that it’s time to throw himself into the battle. His dragon, Vermax, is killed, and while Jace initially jumps free from his dying dragon, he’s killed by Myrish crossbowmen.

We’re also awaiting the arrival of Prince Daeron Targaryen, who was teased at the end of the second season. Meanwhile, in King’s Landing, Rhaenyra is set to take the Iron Throne, which is when she cuts herself on it. This is a sign that she’s not the rightful Queen.

The Duel Above the God’s Eye could take place toward the end of House of the Dragon Season 3, but this could be held for the final season. This is another huge blow for Rhaenyra, as it involves the death of Prince Daemon. However, it’s also a blow for the Greens, as this is also when Aemon Targaryen is killed.

What we do expect is more death during House of the Dragon Season 3. After all, with the fourth season slated to be the last, it means we’re getting close to the end of the dragons.

House of the Dragon Season 3 premieres in June 2026 on HBO and HBO Max.
