CBS Renewal Scorecard: What’s Already Renewed & What Could Be Cancelled?

It’s always hard being a TV show fan. Every year, we go through the same fears of our favorite TV shows being cancelled or renewed. I try to help ease some of those fears with my renewal scorecards, and I’m bringing the CBS renewal scorecard today.

Now, CBS viewers don’t need to worry too much. The majority of the shows have already been renewed, and those that aren’t we already had an idea would be cancelled. There are also a couple of shows still to premiere, so it’s going to be too early to tell what the results could be like.

Let’s get into it, though. And don’t forget to check out my ABC Renewal Scorecard if you want to see which of those shows I expect to see cancelled or renewed.

CBS Renewal Scorecard

I have done full scorecards in the past, looking at all the networks together. However, there are some people who will follow shows on a particular network. There’s just that vibe about them, and you can tell the network a show was likely made in mind for.

CBS is mostly about procedural dramas, but there are a few that break that mold. After all, there are two comedy blocks, and there is still a whole night of comedy. For this post, though. I am only looking at the scripted shows, in both comedy and drama, as unscripted follows some different rules.

I also follow the linear ratings and use that as my main judge. While the linear ratings aren’t the only tool used to make some decisions, it’s a good one.

The scorecard goes like this:

  • Officially Renewed
  • A Sure Thing
  • A Safe Bet
  • 50/50 Chance
  • Likely Cancelled
  • Unofficially Cancelled
  • Officially Cancelled/Ending
  • Too Soon to Tell

There is a difference between cancelled and ending. Cancelled means that it ends abruptly, with no final season. Ending means that whether it was for creative reasons or the network reasons, there will be no more to the story, but the show has an actual planned ending.

  • NCIS: Officially renewed
  • NCIS: Origins: Officially renewed
  • NCIS: Sydney: Officially renewed
  • Sheriff Country: Officially renewed
  • Tracker: Officially renewed
  • Watson: Likely cancelled

CBS Scripted Comedy Chances

  • DMV: Likely cancelled
  • Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage: Officially Renewed
  • Ghosts: Officially renewed
  • The Neighborhood: Officially ending

There are only two new shows heading to the network in the midseason, which is quiet for CBS. While I’ve marked them as “too soon to tell,” because it is, my gut says that they will both be renewed.

As for the shows that are “likely cancelled,” I could have put “unofficially cancelled” for one, but I save that for shows that have been pulled from the network. However, Watson’s move to Sunday’s death slot is a sign that CBS has lost its faith in it.

Just keep in mind that these are all my opinion based on linear numbers. However, networks have to make room for new shows, and with so much already renewed, it’s not looking good for the shows that haven’t been, except for the franchises.
