High Potential Will Lose a Series Regular Ahead of Season 3 — And It’s Not Too Surprising

High Potential

Just like with the first season of High Potential, the second season has ended on a major cliffhanger. This time, things are a little more dire than the first. A life is on the line, and the announcement of losing a series regular could mean that things don’t turn out the way that everyone will hope.

High Potential Season 3 is officially confirmed, and that’s the great news. It also wasn’t surprising news considering the success of the series, but it was welcome as ABC has left a number of series on the bubble for now.

Steve Howey Is Leaving High Potential as a Series Regular

Shortly after the High Potential Season 2 finale, Deadline announced that Steve Howey would leave the show as a series regular. It’s important to note that it’s as a “series regular,” and there is a chance that he will return as a guest star in some sort of capacity next season.

The decision to step down isn’t all that surprising. When Howey first joined the series, it was with a one-year deal. It’s clear that his addition was there to shake things up a little at the precinct, while also creating a doorway for Morgan to have another romantic connection and learn more about what happened to Roman the night he went missing.

Captain Wagner’s life was on the line at the end of the second season. This could be a hint that he will be killed off, but it could mean that he comes back in the High Potential Season 3 premiere as a way to give him a decent send-off.

The Search for a Showrunner Continues

Howey leaving isn’t the only change that High Potential will see. Showrunner Todd Harthan announced that he would step down at the end of the second season. This came at the time of the renewal, and a search for a showrunner has been on since then. So far, a new showrunner hasn’t been found.

It’s going to be a tough job. This is one of ABC’s best shows, proving that fans want quirky and fun, as well as some dramatic cases. The show needs to find the perfect person to take over the job, as it often affects the flow and the consistency with characters and storytelling.

High Potential could also end up losing Susan Kelechi Watson, who ended up being implicated in the final case of the season. Karadec had to deal with the booking of his ex-fiancée, who had just come back into his life, but it’s unclear if she could come back in some sort of way from behind bars during the third season.

High Potential is available to stream on Hulu, and we will likely get Season 3 in the fall.
