While we don’t really know Ormund Hightower on House of the Dragon, I thought it odd that he happily just handed over his nephew to Daemon Targaryen. However, the biggest thing that made me question everything was the fact that the dragon remained with the Greens.

It was something Daemon didn’t even bring up, and I felt it short-sighted. Why would he just allow a dragon that is large enough to fly and fight to stay with the enemy?

Did Daemon Really Not Think of the Dragon on House of the Dragon?

I know that Daemon was only there for Daeron Targaryen. That was his order, and he went with it.

However, did he really not think about even asking for the dragon on House of the Dragon*? Surely, he should have wanted Tessarion to join the others, and there should have been some sort of fight.

Despite not having a rider, the Greens having a dragon like Tessarion is a huge threat. That dragon could still end up finding another rider once Daeron was killed. At least, that was the plan, right?

Sure, the idea of getting Tessarion to follow through with the orders would be difficult, but Daemon didn’t even think about it. This could have been a huge sign at the time of Ormund handing “Daeron” over that it was a ruse.

It didn’t just stop there, though!

Why Didn’t Rhaenyra Question About the Dragon?

When Daemon returned with the boy he thought was his nephew, Rhaenyra didn’t even bring up the dragon. Nobody on the Small Council thought to ask why Daemon hadn’t asked for Tessarion to also join them.

As she considered what to do with Daeron, she still didn’t think about the dragon. She mentioned sending him to the Night’s Watch to Take the Black up there, and still, nothing about Tessarion came up.

Okay, so having Daeron take the black would have helped to take the dragon out of the fight, but surely, Rhaenyra would want to have him under her control. Surely, she’d want to have him so that she could find another illegitimate Targaryen to bond with him.

It was all short-sighted, and it could have led to a much bigger discussion about why Ormund so happily handed his nephew over.

It’s a sign of things to come, I’m sure. Rhaenyra and Daemon aren’t thinking enough steps ahead, and this is sure to lead to Helaena’s vision coming true of Aegon being king again, but this time on a wooden chair.

House of the Dragon* airs on Sundays on HBO and HBO Max.
