When it comes to the idea of Mickey and Boone being together on Sheriff Country, I’m torn. I love the idea of it, but not under the current circumstances.

This has nothing to do with the events of the Sheriff Country* Season 1 Finale. Do I think Mickey needs to be single for a while? Yes! She’s gone from hooking up with Alec, to considering getting back with Travis, to then making a go of things with Alec again, before finding out that he was a bad guy.

Now, she needs time to deal with the loss of this man she thought she loved. She needs to deal with the baggage that comes from dating a dirty DEA agent. She also needs to deal with the fact that her mom — who she thought was dead for decades — has come back into her life.

But it’s got nothing to do with that when it comes to why I don’t quite like the idea of Mickey and Boone being together. It’s their station.

Mickey Is the Boss on Sheriff Country

I’ve always felt uncomfortable about the boss-subordinate relationships on TV shows. While the characters may have chemistry, it doesn’t mean that they should be together. Their position in work creates many other issues.

Mickey is the boss. While I don’t think that she would play favorites, she would need to separate personal and professional all the time. Boone would also need to accept that he’s not going to get his own way just because he’s in a romantic relationship with Mickey.

Sure, I think both would go in with that intention, but it doesn’t mean it plays out in that way. We can all have good intentions, but then personal feelings make things extremely messy.

Mickey Has Already Faced Questions About Relationships

The DEA has already moved in once when it came to Mickey’s relationship with her father. She was put through questioning, because she allowed a man who helped to steal $3 million live in her house. Sure, we know that she had no idea what her dad was up to at the time, but it didn’t change the questions.

If she ends up in a relationship with Boone, there will be questions about her ability to stay neutral in certain circumstances. Will she always take Boone’s side because of that outside relationship? Will she start to play favorites without realising, which we have seen with Cassidy?

While she can try to remain professional, other people are always going to question things. It creates a different vibe in the workplace, and Mickey has a duty to everyone there to create a stable and positive environment.

Boone understands that. In fact, when Mickey pointed out that while she was a deputy, she considered it, there was that sense of understanding. He stepped back and probably didn’t feel as embarrassed about his feelings.

Mickey and Boone Could Be Great Together

This is where I feel torn, though. When it comes to these two Sheriff Country characters, there’s no doubt that they have chemistry. They understand each other’s lives, and they don’t balk in the face of danger. If one of them does have their life on the line, they’ll be worried, but they will be able to deal with the aftermath.

They work exceptionally well as a team, and that comes from all the years they’ve ridden in a car together. By having that experience, they know each other’s tells, and they know how to support each other. And that football rivalry is just a friendly one, which is a lot of fun to have in the house — I can say that from experience.

If it wasn’t for the sheriff-deputy relationship, I’d be fully on board with the idea of Mickey and Boone together on Sheriff Country.
