It’s always hard getting to the end of a season of a TV show. There are all these fears about abrupt cancellations. The good news is that The Testaments* Season 1 finale isn’t the end of the whole series.

The Handmaid’s Tale sequel series has already been renewed for a second season. That news came last week, just after the penultimate episode dropped. It meant everyone could relax going into the finale, knowing that any questions that were left on the table would eventually get answers.

Is There Hope for Becka on The Testaments Season 2?

Of course, the finale has left us with some major questions, and it doesn’t help that we don’t have the source material to help get answers. From the beginning of the series, it was clear that we wouldn’t be following much of the book storyline.

The end of The Testaments Season 1 further confirms that. Fans of the book know that Becka doesn’t become a wife. Instead, she goes on a journey to become an Aunt, so already, we have a huge change.

We ended the season with Becka marrying Garth and then locking her in her bedroom. Yes, he fully locked the door, and it’s not exactly clear why that is just yet.

Becka had been arrested for killing her father, but her mom took the blame for it. She was executed as Becka was getting married, and Aunt Estee had to sedate Becka to make sure she went through with the wedding. Garth, who is now a Commander, didn’t even bat an eyelid, and after the wedding, carried her into the house and put her to bed.

We know Garth is Mayday, and it raises some questions about his treatment of Becka. Of course, he’ll want to protect himself, and he won’t know if he can trust his wife yet. At the same time, there are some good theories that maybe he is a double agent after all. We can’t overlook the fact that his father was poisoned by Mayday.

What Will Agnes Do With the Information She Has?

Meanwhile, Agnes has learned that she is the daughter of June Osborne. After Daisy managed to get out and then decided that she had to go back in, she got to Agnes to share the news that June was her mom.

This led to Agnes going to see Aunt Lydia, who confirmed the reveal. She only had good things to say about June, despite everything June had done on The Handmaid’s Tale, and it led to a tease of what could come.

While all this was going on, Daisy had made it clear that she intended to raise an army of teenage girls. Could her story connect to Agnes’ story during The Testaments Season 2? As Agnes learns who she comes from, could she decide that it’s time to bring Gilead down?

We have to remember that Agnes still believes in the Gilead regime. She was ready to marry Commander Weston before he called off the engagement. I get a sense that she isn’t quite ready to see Gilead fall just yet, and it may take a potential marriage to Commander Judd, as happens in the book, for her to change her mind.

The Testaments is available to stream on Hulu, and it’s a must-watch for The Handmaid’s Tale* fans.
