Is Aemond Targaryen About to Get a Wasted Storyline on House of the Dragon Season 3?

One of the biggest complaints about House of the Dragon Season 2 was Daemon’s wasted storyline at Harrenhal. He spent the entire season having visions, and it was only at the very end that they really made a difference.

Now, it seems like Aemond Targaryen is about to go through the same thing. Do we really need to sit through another wasted storyline?

Aemond Makes It to Harrenhal on House of the Dragon Season 3 Episode 2

After constant talk about the plan for Aemond to take Vhagar to Harrenhal, Aemond finally went through with it. Of course, Daemon is no longer there, and it seems to be a bit of a wasted trip.

As Aemond walks through the castle, he comes across the Strongs, who attack him. However, Aemond is quick to kill them all. One of them does get a good hit at Aemond’s back, but he still faces the wrong end of a sword.

With nobody but Alys Rivers in the castle, it’s now time for Aemond’s story with her to start. However, I get a sense that we’re going to have something similar to Daemon’s House of the Dragon* Season 2 storyline.

The castle is full of ghosts, and it likes to trick and confuse its new residents. Daemon went through a season of figuring out the errors in his ways and having to face the demons of his past, and that’s likely what Harrenhal has in store for Aemond.

Does Aemond Die at Harrenhal in Fire & Blood?

Now, one of the big concerns right now is the injury that Aemond sustained. That stabbing to the back could be life threatening, and it’s normal to ask if Aemond is going to die while at Harrenhal.

Based on Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin*, that would be a no. Alys is able to help Aemond. In fact, in the books, they become attached in a sexual way, with her becoming Aemond’s bedmate and constant companion. Will we get to see how that plays out, and will it have something to do with Daemon laughing at the idea of her wanting Harrenhal to herself?

Aemond is set to die at some point during House of the Dragon. He and Daemon face off above the God’s Eye, and that’s where they both meet their maker. Well, at least, it seems that way. Aemond definitely does, but there are theories that Daemon actually survives and disappears with Nettles.

House of the Dragon* airs on Sundays on HBO and HBO Max.
