If you’re anything like me, the Sheriff Country Season 1 finale ended with your jaw dropping to the floor. As much as I could have called Alec being a dirty DEA agent and Mickey having to work with her dad again, I didn’t call the Eva Santos reveal.
It turns out that Mickey’s mom didn’t die all those years ago, after all. She faked her death, and she is now the Deputy Director of the DEA. It all came out when Wes Fox walked into the room and saw Eva Santos for the first time, and it looked like he was about to have a heart attack.
Well, we shouldn’t have to wait too long for answers about what happened way back when Eva supposedly died while in jail. We’ll start to get some answers at the beginning of Sheriff Country* Season 2.
Why Did Eva Santos Fake Her Death on Sheriff Country?
One of the biggest questions for many is why Eva faked her death. Sheriff Country showrunner, Matt Lopez, told TV Insider that we’ll get answers quickly at the beginning of the second season. We’ll not just learn why she was cut off from her daughter for so long, but also Eva’s plan to get to know more about Mickey. After all, the questions that came up when Mickey was being questioned about Wes were rather invasive at times, and Eva acknowledged that.
Eva allowed both her husband and daughter to believe that she was dead. It’s something Lopez believes she regrets, but it was a decision that needed to be made at the time.
Unless it has something to do with keeping Mickey safe, it’s hard to understand why a mother would do this. Especially to end up in a position of authority in the DEA. She had completely changed her name, and that brings up a lot of questions on its own.
How Will Others React to Learning the Truth?
It’s clear that Eva will stick around for some time, and it’s only a matter of time before the secrets come out. Wes and Mickey aren’t going to be able to work together and keep the Eva secret quiet. That will likely lead to both Travis and Skye learning the truth.
They have a lot going on with the Fraley family as well! Miranda was arrested, and now the Fraley business is back in the hands of Travis. He and Skye will help to bring the soul back, figuring out the next journey for everyone there.
However, they’re sure to have their own opinions and thoughts about Eva. Can Skye keep her sobriety with yet another bombshell, and how will Travis react to finding out his ex-mother-in-law is still alive?
