We all know that Homelander isn’t afraid to ruffle feathers. He will kill anyone he feels like, although he hates it when people don’t love him for his actions. The Boys Season 5 already saw the death of A-Train, which was a little anticlimactic and disappointing considering there was more to come for that character.
The latest death has been something we’ve expected for a season. After all, there was no way this character was ever going to stand a real chance against anyone. What we didn’t really see was that Homelander would be the one to do it — and in such a graphic way.
Homelander Kills Firecracker on The Boys
When Firecracker was initially introduced on The Boys Season 4, it was clear that she could end up being collateral damage. However, it would take time, as we really needed to hate her. She’s a woman who has made a living telling lies, but eventually, those lies caught up with her.
Throughout the fifth season, she started to face inner turmoil. Homelander wants to be viewed as a god. And not just any god — but the one and only. So, as Firecracker starts to struggle with her faith because she does believe in Jesus and God, she’s left questioning a few things about her place. She doesn’t share those thoughts with Homelander, but she does share them with Soldier Boy, and that means Homelander finds out.
Of course, Homelander is a narcissist. He needs to be loved, and he will kill those who don’t love him and don’t worship him. As he learns that Firecracker is wavering, he decides that she’s no longer any use to him, and that leads to him killing her. It’s graphic, as her head hits the wing of the eagle statue, killing her instantly.
Can Firecracker Return on The Boys Season 5?
Eric Kripke is known for killing characters off and bringing them back. Just look at Supernatural. However, that’s not going to be the case with this series.
Sure, the series has made it clear that not all Supes die. Those with V1 in their system live forever, such as Soldier Boy. However, Firecracker didn’t have that version in her system. There is no way for her to come back from being impaled on the statue, so she’s dead.
Could she come back as some sort of ghost? Maybe, I’m not ruling that out. After all, Homelander has to start facing the horrors of what he’s done, right? There has to be some sort of major crisis at the end. It’s unlikely, though, and instead, we’re left with the message that we shouldn’t give up everything we believe in for one person, because they will turn on you!
