Amazon seemingly takes with one hand and gives with the other. While announcing that Gen V was canceled after two seasons, the news came with something exciting to look forward to. The Boys prequel spinoff, Vought Rising, landed a release year.
Yes, year! It’s not a date and we don’t even have a season, but we have an idea as to how long we’re waiting for the new series to drop. It’s going to be the only English-language series within the universe once The Boys wraps its final season very soon. At least, for the time being.
Vought Rising Will Premiere in 2027
Deadline has confirmed that The Boys prequel series will premiere sometime in 2027. We have no idea as to when, and we can’t even judge The Boys or Gen V to get an idea. The summer tended to be good seasons for the two shows, but then the second season of Gen V moved to the fall, and The Boys has landed some spring dates throughout its five-season run.
This is expected to be one of the bigger shows on the network. That usually means the summer or the fall for Prime Video, as it catches the attention of people looking for something to watch once broadcast networks have gone on a break or the time of year traditional for new TV shows to premiere.
What is Vought Rising About?
The new spinoff series is a prequel, focused on Soldier Boy and Stormfront. That means both Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash will return to the series, as both of them have been around since the 1940s and thanks to their Compound V, they’re not aging — at least, not all that quickly!
The series will give us a look at how Vought got its start. We know from The Boys Season 2 that Stormfront was originally married to Vought. On top of that, she and her husband were Nazis, which really isn’t that surprising when you consider the willingness to perform experiments. Stormfront, who went by Lady Liberty in the past, was one of the first to receive Compound V.
Soldier Boy was also one of the first people to get Compound V, and he originally led the team called Payback. However, he was abducted during a mission, betrayed by the Supe who would eventually become Black Noir. Soldier Boy managed to break out of where he was being held during Season 3, and then he was put back under lock and key, before returning in Season 5.
The Boys Season 5 is currently airing on Prime Video. It is confirmed as the final season, bringing us major showdowns and deaths.
