There are some books that just become immediate bestsellers. They have the right blurb to draw people in, or they just have the right influencers behind it. In the case of Yesteryear, it was the premise. The entire idea behind the novel screamed perfectly timed but timeless at the same time.
It wasn’t surprising to hear that the novel would be picked up as a movie, but what was surprising was that this was in the works long before Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke was published. It was just that good!
Anne Hathaway Was Immediately Interested in Yesteryear
While on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Burke explained that the idea for the movie came up while she was finding a publisher for her work. She got an email to say that Anne Hathaway was interested, and everything snowballed from there.
It’s not surprising that Hathaway is intrigued by this story. Not only does it bring some social commentary, but it’s also packed with horror, humor, and life. This is a story that has many life lessons packed within the pages, and lessons for all ages and interests at that!
The movie development is only in the early stages at this point. Hathaway has picked up the rights with her production company, and she will also star as Natalie, the tradwife who finds herself in a confusing and questionable situation.
What Is Yesteryear About?
If you haven’t read the novel yet, you need to. There are twists upon twists throughout the story. Burke knew how she wanted to end the story, and the rest of it is just finding her way to that point, and it leaves for a lot of questions along the way.
It follows Natalie, a “tradwife.” She’s a social media influencer, who makes a money selling something that she’s not really living. She says that she and her family live and work on a farm, and she says that she makes everything herself and that her husband does all the farming, and that it’s organic. There are a few helpers here and there, such as nannies for the children and farmhands to help there. However, she doesn’t show them, because she doesn’t want the realities to be on show!
Things take a turn when she wakes up in 1855. Suddenly, she’s trying to figure out who this family is that claims to be her husband and children. Is this a test from God? Has she somehow traveled back in time? As the truth is revealed, your jaw is sure to be on the floor. I know mine was!
Yesteryear* is now available and a movie is coming.
