Worried that Outlander Season 8 can’t wrap up everything well enough? There is some exciting news, as the Outlander series finale is set to be one of the longest episodes to date. It will be more than an hour long, offering hope that the team can stick the landing.
This doesn’t mean the longest episode ever. There have been other episodes that have ran longer than tradition, and that’s usually because there is so much to fit in. They’ve never dragged, and I don’t expect that to be the case here. Of course, I’m of the opinion that this season has been strong — as a book-first fan, I still love the show’s adaptation and have appreciated many of the major changes.
How Long Will the Outlander Series Finale Be?
The Outlander Season 8 finale is expected to be around 80 minutes long (that’s one hour and 20 minutes). I know there have been comments that it will be 120 minutes long, but I think people are mixing up their times.
This isn’t the longest episode we’ve ever had, with the Outlander Season 2 finale running for around 90 minutes. The Outlander Season 6 premiere also ran for around 90 minutes, as there was the need to fit in some backstory about Tom Christie and Jamie Fraser while at Culloden.
While it’s not the longest episode, it’s certainly appreciated by many. It means less need to rush to fit it all in.
What to Expect in the Outlander Season 8 Finale
The Outlander series finale is set to bring us the battle at Kings Mountain. This is the battle that the season has been building up to all this time, with Frank sharing that James Fraser dies in it. Of course, we have no confirmation that it’s the same James Fraser, but it seems likely.
At the end of Outlander Season 8 Episode 9, Jamie seemed settled knowing that he would have to die. The battle is important to prevent more war coming to the backcountry, and Jamie will want to protect everyone living there.
However, we know that Claire has the ability to heal. She used her magical blue light to bring a baby back from the dead, and there’s a chance that she’ll be able to do the same for Jamie. It won’t mean that Frank was wrong, as Jamie could still die, but it will mean a happy ending for the Fraser family.
