Just before Brilliant Minds went on its pre-Winter Olympic break, we were delivered a major twist. Sofia wasn’t a real patient of Wolf’s at all. Instead, she was a figment of his imagination.
Well, color us shocked when the Brilliant Minds* Season 2 penultimate episode changed all of that. It turns out that Sofia is, in fact, real! Yes, really!
As Wolf went through many of his father’s photos, he realized that he had another family on the side. Sofia was Noah’s daughter from the other woman, making her Wolf’s half-sister.
Now, we have a lot of questions. Did Wolf ever meet the real Sofia? Did she actually come into the apartment to see Noah and find Wolf there? Did she already know about the half-brother she had never met? Then, at some point, did Wolf start to hallucinate Sofia in other parts of his life?
It’s hard to say at this point. What we do know is that Sofia flirted with a newly single Dana.
Yes, sadly, Dana and Katie broke up, which seemed to always be the writing on the wall. I’d mentioned earlier in Brilliant Minds Season 2 that the show seemed to be creating tension between Katie and Dana for no reason.
Over time, that tension has grown, and it has become more and more apparent that Dana is worried about committing. She couldn’t say “I love you” back, and she didn’t really want to meet Katie’s family — although, after the disaster of meeting her friends, is that all that surprising? — so, it seemed like the two were never going to be compatible.
When Dana put Wolf and the court case over her relationship with Katie, it was time for the end. Katie made it clear that she couldn’t be with Dana anymore, bringing us a major breakup as we head into the final episode of the series.
The Brilliant Minds Season 2 Finale is still set to be the final-ever episode. While the show is being shopped around, it’s not going to be all that easy to save it, and I do think that we’ll be saying goodbye, with a major cliffhanger to deal with!
Brilliant Minds* will air its series finale on July 1, 2026, on NBC. It streams on Peacock.
