It’s time to head back to Salem. Well, it will be eventually, as Hocus Pocus 3 is now officially in the works.
It was just four years ago when the initially thoughts of a third movie in the franchise came up. Set 29 years after the 1993 masterpiece, the Sanderson Sisters returned, only to be thwarted in their plans once again. Immediately, there were questions about a third installment, and things were positive.
However, as Sean Bailey left Disney, the project was seemingly put on pause. We feared that it had been halted entirely, but there is some great news.
Hocus Pocus 3 Is in the Early Stages
The third movie will include Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy once more as Winnie, Sarah, and Mary Sanderson, respectively. We’re sure to see them back from Hell once more, where they are likely set to suck the souls of children to be able to live forever.
However, other details of the movie have been left unknown. Midler had received the initial pitch, sharing that the script was “brilliant,” but that was three years ago when the project was first underway. A lot has changed, and it’s not even clear if everyone else originally set to return will.
It turns out that some of the delays were due to salary negotiations with the three leading witches, according to Deadline. The sequel saw a new virgin to light the candle, and she’s surely not going to make the same mistake again. So, who will light the Black Flame Candle this time?
Former cast members have said that they would love to return, but the story will need to be right. After all, Binks was able to pass on to the afterlife and be with his sister by the end of the first movie, making it a little harder to bring him back — and do we even want that?
When Could Hocus Pocus 3 Arrive to Screens?
In some bad news, there isn’t a release date just yet. The earliest we’re likely to see it at this point in 2027, as so much is still in early development.
There is hope that this release will be in theaters first and then to Disney+. The second movie went straight to Disney+, but this was in 2022, while many theaters were still closed or struggling and people wanted to remain home. Now that the world has opened up, it is time to get movies back in theaters.
