At the end of Grey’s Anatomy Season 22, Teddy and Owen left Grey Sloan Memorial for pastures new. They were headed for Paris, and it created a beautiful sendoff for an otherwise toxic couple.
Now we’ve heard that Shonda Rhimes is returning to ABC to bring us another Grey’s Anatomy spinoff. Eyed for the 2027 midseason slate on ABC, the untitled spinoff will focus on a rural medical center in Texas. And of course, we can’t help but question if this is the way to bring back Teddy and Owen already.
After all, the decision to write the two out wasn’t made by the Grey’s Anatomy* writers. This was a decision from ABC due to budgets, and they were the best two to exit. That doesn’t mean the writers can’t figure out a way to keep them in the universe.
Teddy and Owen Left for Paris on Grey’s Anatomy
Wait, is it even possible? Didn’t Teddy and Owen leave for Paris? Well, sure, but let’s remember there’s a Paris in Texas! There’s a whole Netflix movie about it!
So, could the two end up in Paris, Texas and set up a new medical center?
I’m just having fun with this idea. It’s highly unlikely that we’ll see Teddy and Owen. They’re not dumb enough to fall for a job in Paris, Texas. Teddy literally got the offer from her mentor who was out in Paris, France, anyway. That’s where they’re heading.
That doesn’t mean we can’t see a Grey’s Anatomy character leave Grey Sloan Memorial for a job offer in Texas. Maybe we can see someone from the past return. After all, the spinoffs have usually involved another character from the universe, with Addison Montgomery heading to lead Private Practice and Ben Warren switching to a career as a firefighter for Station 19.
The Spinoff Will Not Follow the Same Patterns
It turns out that we won’t see someone from the show already headline this new series. Instead, it’s going to bring an entirely new set of cast members, according to co-creator Meg Marinis.
The untitled spinoff will be set in a rural West Texas medical center, which is the last chance for medical care for miles. It’s not going to have a huge emergency department and team to handle situations, and will be more like the small medical center Owen and Teddy helped at during Grey’s Anatomy Season 22.
There is the possibility that Catherine Fox will be the connection between the shows. She does own multiple hospitals. What are the chances that she already owns this one or that she buys it, and that leads to the creation of the new team?
The new Grey’s Anatomy spinoff has been ordered straight to series, and it is planned for the 2027 midseason slate on ABC.
