Thursday nights have been spent waiting for the clock to strike midnight, and not because we’re Cinderella hoping that the carriage doesn’t turn back into a pumpkin. It’s all about Outlander.
That’s when new episodes would drop on STARZ. But there’s a lot of bad news.
There isn’t a new episode of Outlander* coming at midnight on Friday, May 22. Nor will there be a new episode to come at all.
The Outlander Series Finale Has Aired
If you’re like me, you may have felt there was something off about the Outlander Series Finale. It didn’t quite feel like the end, and you want at least one more episode to wrap the story.
That’s not going to happen, though. The finale is the finale. That is how the story ends, and that’s what we got to see last week.
There is a little bit of ambiguity to the ending. Most people will have seen Claire’s hair turn while and both of their eyes open. However, that was easily missed.
My interpretation is that Jamie went through purgatory to 1945, where he saw Claire through the window. He laid the forget-me-nots by the stones, making sure Claire would head through the stones to meet him. He did die, but Claire was able to bring him back to life.
Now, personally, I need a little more.
People saw Jamie die, so it’s not like he can just head back to the Ridge and act like everything is normal. Can he? This isn’t like the books where Claire healed him out of the sight of others, and it could be believed that she was able to do her “magic” that people could understand.
No, this was completely different, and it left for something lacking.
There Is More In the Universe to Come
In some good news, there is more in the universe, but not in the show. At least, not just yet!
The 10th book is still to come out, and there’s a chance that that will arrive in 2027. We can only hope!
On top of that, Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 2 will premiere at the end of this year. This is the prequel series that tells the story of Claire and Jamie’s parents, which left on a major cliffhanger at the end of the first season.
The teaser trailer for that is already out, getting us ready for the next part of the story.
I would also love to see the universe grow. Maybe we could have a Lord John Grey spinoff, finally. Maybe there’s a chance for a Young Ian and Rachel spinoff, or a Brianna and Roger spinoff. The opportunities are out there, and it’s only a matter of whether STARZ will greenlight projects that Matt B. Roberts and Maril Davis take to them.
